Located between the Fraser Coast and the Whitsundays, and
only 30 minutes from
Rockhampton, with unspoilt beaches, rainforests, and sub-tropical islands
that include the Keppel Islands group with
Great Keppel Island, is the beautiful
Capricorn Coast, a coastal region of Queensland that encompasses some great tourist destinations, attractions and
tours. Set on the Tropic of Capricorn the region is loosely defined as being
the area stretching from the
Hervey Bay in the
south, to Shoalwater Bay and Byfield to the north, encompassing the major city
of Rockhampton, Gladstone, Bundaberg
and Yeppoon. As well as the
numerous islands, stretching inland it includes the towns of Gin Gin, Childers,
Biloela and Calliope, just a handful of the many towns and localities. Some of
the popular coastal destinations include Keppel Sands, Agnes Water
and Burnett Heads.
With an average temperature of 25 degrees Celsius, the region is a haven for
those seeking warm sunny days, pristine coastlines, beautiful towns and
localities.

Capricorn
Cays National Park
Made up of 22 reefs at the southern end of the Great
Barrier Reef on the Tropic of Capricorn. There are 16 coral
cays attached to the reefs with the largest being
North West Island at 105ha. 8 of these cays are part of the
National Park, with 4 available for camping, they are Tyron
Island, North West Island, Masthead Island, and Lady
Musgrave Island.

The Capricorn Coast's major arts celebration staged annually by the Keppel
Coast Arts Council since 2002. The Festival
is a kaleidoscope of contemporary culture with something for everyone featuring
music, performing arts, visual arts, cultural arts, childrens activities,
street theatre, workshops, food, stalls and on site camping.
