Historic Childers
- The National Trust Town
The small historic cane growing town of Chliders on
the Bruce Highway is the southern gateway to the Bundaberg region. Famed for its historic
buildings and Leopard Trees (Caesalpinea ferrea)
that line the main street this pleasant town has plenty for
the visitor to do and see. You will notice that one side
of the main street has a distinct architectural style to the
other. This is because in 1902 one side was completely
burnt down in a fire. Most of the towns important buildings
now reside on the older side of the street.
