Croydon - Cities, Towns and Localities
The Gulf township of Croydon is located on the Gulf Development Road, between Normanton and Georgetown, just south of the base of the Gulf of Carpentaria, in Gulf Savannah country.

The Croydon Shire is over 2,000 kilometres by road from Queensland's Capital City of Brisbane. The shire encompasses an area of 29,538 square kilometres, and offers some friendly bush hospitality.

The visitor centre houses pioneer and descendant genealogy services, heritage items, photographs, a renowned audio visual in a theatrette, lots of information and an internet service. The centre also showcases outdoor heritage displays, gorgeous old heritage buildings and is the hub for recording, registering and managing the history of Croydon, providing your starting point for those researching their family’s local genealogy. There is a local Genealogy Database, with over 1,000 names of families that once called Croydon 'home'.

You can pick up the "Incredible Croydon Walking Guide" from the True Blue Visitor Information Centre and enjoy the living history through interactive and static displays and by visiting the businesses that are still operating from the 1880's. Take a ride on the historic Gulflander Train.

A great place to stay, for those seeking a real outback experience and natural attractions. There are a range of activities including some great all year round fishing.

• A fascinating and unique experience to passengers, the Gulflander travels through some of the most remote and inaccessible countryside on the Queensland map. 140 km to Croydon each week. Opened in 1891 to join Normanton to the teeming Croydon goldfields, the line has never been linked to the main Queensland Rail network. Download Schedule and Fares.
