Access to the park is via the Gregory Development Rd about 46km north of
Charters Towers. Camping is by permit only.
The park protects many native
birds and animals that make a living along the river. Mt Keelbottom is located
here as are sections of the basalt lava flows that are famous in this area. The
Toomba lava flow creating the Great Basalt Wall can easily be seen as it snakes
its way across the countryside.
