Daydream Island - Cities, Towns and Localities
Only 1 km long and half km wide, Daydream Island was originally known as West Molle Island and became a resort island in 1933 when it was purchased by the retired army major Paddy Murray and his wife. Then in 1947, the island was purchased by Sir Reginald Ansett, who closed the resort in 1953, dismantling the buildings and removing the equipment. It then remained closed until 1967, when a Gold Coast entrepreneur purchased and re-established the resort. It has changed hands several times until its present owners.

There are three beaches, one which is fringed by outcrops of live coral and colourful aquatic life, making it a perfect place to explore with your snorkel. You can also walk the shaded trails through the centre and highest point of the island where parrots and tiny sunbirds inhabit the dense tropical jungle vegetation. From Daydream, you can then explore the rest of the Great Barrier Reef, The Whitsunday Islands and the rainforests of the mainland.

A favourite with families, especially those with toddlers and babies, it appeals to all ages of the general public. There is plenty to do including sailing, jet skiing, parasailing, water skiing, tube rides, scuba diving, wind surfing, tennis, volleyball, swimming and a host of other activities.

Location: Whitsundays, close to the mainland, in the Molle Group.
Access: Ferry from Shute Harbour or arrive via Hamilton Island airport.
Population: Resort accommodates up to 900 guests.
