Following are some events happening in Queensland. For more information, check the destination pages of the town or area you are visiting.

Some events happen at the same time throughout Australia, such as Christmas and New Years Eve celebrations, ANZAC Day, Australia Day, local markets, agricultural shows etc. Some scheduled events only have approximate dates, with some dates changing or being cancelled.

July Events - Queensland

Brisbane Valley Brisbane Valley Multicultural Festival
• Annual event held in July
The popular multicultural festival is held in the middle of the Brisbane Valley with something for everyone including art and craft market, art exhibition, food stalls, performers and performances. Check their website for details
Caboolture Medieval Tournament
The Abbey Museum of Art & Archaeology
• July
The museum hosts its famous Medieval Tournament. Thousands of people flock to watch the colourful spectacle of jousting, mock combats, archery, dancing, music, crafts, living history encampments and live theatre. The two-day event opens with a Grand Parade of re-enactment groups from all over Australia and closes with a mighty castle siege. Stained glass tours of the Abbey Church run at designated times dur9ing the event.

Cooroy King of the Mountain Race
• July
Each July athletes from around the world compete to be the first to run up and down Mount Cooroora a 438 metre high volcanic plug. The race record is an incredible 22 minutes. The race itself is limited to 50 runners and the track is difficult and steep.

Capricorn Coast
Yeppoon
World Cooee Competition and Oz Festival
• July
Each year Taranganba is host for the Yeppoon’s annual Cooee Competition and Oz Festival. This is a fun filled day for all of the family to enjoy, with market stalls, kids rides, food and drink outlets, live entertainment and of course the World Cooee Competition.

Hervey Bay
Whitsunday Islands and Region
Whale Watching
• July to November.
Hervey Bay Marine Park has long established itself as the whale watching site in Australia.
• May to September
The Whitsunday Islands and surrounding region provide the warm shallow and sheltered waters for the humpback whales, providing the ideal calving ground and nursery for newborn whales.

Mount Isa The Isa Rodeo
• July/August
• Known as the ‘Rodeo Capital of Australia’, ‘The Isa Rodeo’ has grown tremendously since its humble beginnings in 1959. Today, the combined Rotary Clubs of Mount Isa present ‘The Isa Rodeo’ - the biggest event on the Australian rodeo calendar. The events attracts the best of local and overseas competitors in an event program that is jammed packed full of festivities including a ball, mardi gras, horse race, art and photographic exhibitions, ute muster and live entertainment. When planning your visit for this event, it is recommended you book ahead as accommodation may be booked out.

Capricorn Coast The Village Festival of Arts & Music

The Capricorn  Coast's major arts celebration staged annually by the Keppel Coast Arts Council since 2002. The Festival is a kaleidoscope of contemporary culture with something for everyone featuring music, performing arts, visual arts,  cultural arts, children’s activities, street theatre, workshops, food, stalls and on site camping.

Charters Towers Charters Towers Show

Come and see what the country is all about with our ‘country show’. There is a large beef cattle section, equestrian events, displays from our schools and community groups, arts and crafts, fruit and vegetables, poultry, pigeons, cooking and plants.

Childers Childer’s Show
• August
Annual country show that includes music, food, contests, farm animals, wood chopping, fireworks, rides, and number of other great items that you find a a country show.

Gin Gin The Burning of the Cane at Gin Gin
• August
The event of the year at Gin Gin is the Burning of the Cane, so gather a party of friends and make your way out to the country for a great day out. The markets will be in full swing from early in the morning. There will be a whip cracking and a cane cutting competition. Stay to watch the cane being burnt in the late afternoon and enjoy a sausage sizzle. An enjoyable day for the whole family.
Gin Gin Gin Gin Annual Car and Machinery Show
• Annual event held in August
Come and enjoy the annual event - sled pulling by tractors and a car gymkhana. There will also be static displays of vintage cars, modern cars, trucks and tractors as well as vintage machinery throughout the day. Food and craft stalls will be available, as well as entertainment for the children, and a great day should be enjoyed by all.
Gin Gin Jazz and Shiraz
Wonbah Estate Winery and Vineyards
• Jazz & Shiraz (2nd Sunday in August)-bookings essential
Come and enjoy the fun of the Jazz and Shiraz on the 2nd Sunday in August. All Annual events are subject to changes in dates and times so please confirm the details by calling the winery.

Gympie Toyota National Country Music Muster
• August
The peaceful setting at Amamoor Creek State Forest Park comes alive every August for one of Australia's biggest celebrations of music. The Toyota National Country Music Muster site is a 40 minute drive west of Gympie.

Central West
International Yabby Races
• August
Herald as the ‘International Yabby Races’, this annual event attracts over 400 people from around the region and visitors passing through on their way to the Birdsville Races. Held in the main street, punters have the opportunity to buy one of 40 yabbies, which will race for glory in four races including the Barcoo Bolt, Thomson Trot, Kyabra Kanter and Coopers Creek Cup.

Fifty percent of the money raised from the auction supports many local organisations and helps in purchasing equipment in a number of worthwhile projects in Windorah.

The International Yabby Races is a unique racing event and once the last yabby has crawled its way past the finishing line, visitors can enjoy the local hospitality at the Western Star Hotel.

Birdsville

Birdsville Races
• 1st Saturday in September
Visitors from around the world converge every year at the tiny outback town of Birdsville for the annual Birdsville Racing Carnival, held over two days. In a racing program offering cash prices and the much sought after XXXX Gold Birdsville Cup trophy, the races are held just 3 km to the south east of the town, on a claypan alongside sand dunes. As well as racing, visitors celebrate with two nights of live entertainment, along side the other daytime activities.

Brisbane Riverfestival
• Held over 10 days in early September
An annual celebration of the Brisbane community and environment, focussing on Brisbane’s signature natural landmark, the Brisbane River. The festival takes in the waterways and culture, heralding the start of spring with a rich and diverse program of music, visual arts, film, forums, education projects, dining, culture, free outdoor events and a number of recreational events. Gladstone Seafood Festival

Go Nuts In Kingaroy!!! Especially when you can bring your family to the friendliest country town in Queensland and enjoy a real old-fashioned Australian knees-up for a half to a third the cost of a weekend on the coast.


Nanango Annual Elegant Craft Affair

The Craft Affair has grown to become the largest two-day craft show in the South Burnett region, displaying leather work, quilts, wood craft, weaving, crochet dolls, cake icing, home-made chocolate and much more.

‘The Postie Bike Challenge’ is a 3,000 kilometre rally (not a race!), 10 day event. A group of ‘Postie Bikes’ will leave Brisbane on a brand new adventure. The challenge is designed as a spectacular national event with a major goodwill objective. In the tradition of the Postie Bike Challenge the route take us through some of the most remote and beautiful countryside Australia has to offer. October Events - Queensland

Charters Towers Charters Towers Amateur Races
• October
Annual event held every Caulfield Cup Day at the Charters Towers Race Track.

Gold Coast Indy 300
• October
This annual event, sees the Gold Coast converted into a racing circuit that lasts 96 days. There are Champ cars and V8 Supercar Challenge races, including stunt shows, drag races, air shows and more. Check the website for accommodation bookings and more info.

Mary Valley Mary Valley Scarecrow Festival
• September/October
The Mary Valley Scarecrow Festival began in Maleny in 1998. In a setting behind Queensland's glorious Sunshine Coast, one of the best scarecrow festivals around Australia has happened during early spring almost every year since the late 90s. It now runs from mid September until the late in October.

Conondale and Kenilworth joined in to the fun the year after its humble beginnings. Since then it has spread down the Mary Valley to include Brooloo, Imbil, Ridgewood, Kandanga, Amamoor, and Dagun.

Tamborine Mountain Tamborine Mountain Scarecrow Festival
• October
The Tamborine Mountain Scarecrow Festival is an annual welcome-all event for families and everyone who enjoys some fun and a great week-end in our very special environment just over an hour from Brisbane and 30 minutes from the Gold Coast.

The first Scarecrow Festival was held in 2008 and has been growing each year as more local residents, school students and business owners join in the challenge, and fun, of building and exhibiting a scarecrow.

The Scarecrow Festival gives locals and residents the opportunity to explore the Scarecrow Trail and enjoy the Mountain’s charming cafes, handicraft and antique shops, art galleries and wineries.

Warwick Warwick Rodeo

The Warwick Rodeo is probably Australia's most famous rodeo, being held at the Warwick Showgrounds since 1929. There are a variety of events and entertainment.

Bundaberg Mon Repos Conservation Park
• February/March (Turtle hatching season) • November (start of the turtle season)
Mon Repos supports the largest concentration of nesting sea turtles on the east Australian mainland and is one of the two largest loggerhead turtle rookeries in the south Pacific Ocean region. To see the turtles hatching, head to Mon Repos Beach.

Ipswich The Handmade Expo has come to Ipswich

Port Shorts provides an opportunity for all film makers, from the first time amateur to the seasoned professional, to “strut their stuff”. Films are 3 minutes in length and any genre.
