Girraween National Park - Cities, Towns and Localities

'Place of Flowers'

Girraween or "Place of Flowers" is a magnificent national park located on the Queensland/New South Wales border just south of Stanthorpe. Each spring the park explodes with wild flower blooms amongst huge granite outcrops millions of years old, many of them in precarious positions having weathered that way over millennia. Some of the wildflowers you can experience in the spring are purple, yellow and red pea flowers, orchids, flannel flowers all set amongst golden wattles, stringy bark eucalypts, red gum and black butt trees.

The park is also a bird lovers paradise with 146 bird species recorded including the very rare turquoise parrot. Native animals such as kangaroo, spotted tail quolls, sugar gliders, echidna, and possums are also plentiful. The park is also home to a wide variety of snakes and frogs. There are plenty of medium grade walking tracks available, cliff climbing for the more experienced, campsites, and picnic areas.

Camping permits are required, a visitor information centre is available to help organise your stay in the park.

Contact the local Parks and Wildlife Service or visit the QLD National parks, marine parks and forests website. In addition to our listed online travel guide information, contact the local tourism visitor centre for your destination for more attractions, tours, local maps and other information.
