Captain James Cook saw and named these mountains in 1770.
Their prominent peaks tower above the surrounding
countryside and make great climbing. The peaks are all that
remain of extinct volcanoes. They are in fact the remains of
the lava plugs at the centre of each volcano. Many
bushwalking tracks are available as are picnic areas. Some
of the peaks can be climbed and are rated from challenging
to moderate. The three most popular bushwalks/climbs are
the Mt Beerwah (556m) only for the experienced and fit
walker. Mt Tibrogargan (364m) also challenging and Mt
Ngungan (253m) moderate climb.
