This small sugar milling town some 24 km south of Cairns has the dubious claim to being the home of the Cane Toad.
102 toads were released just outside of Gordonvale on the
22nd June 1935. Being the first location to have these
introduced pests released, no-one expected the extent or speed that this
introduced species would spread, threatening ecological
disaster in such sensitive areas as Kakadu in the Top End of the Northern
Territory. The town itself is pleasant for a sugar town
with a central park and many historic buildings kept in good
condition. In addition to our listed online travel guide information, contact the local
