A beautiful coral cay of about 15 ha, surrounded by magnificent
coral reef, and just 27 km or 45 minutes from
Cairns, first declared a
national park in 1937, with the surrounding waters then declared a
marine park in 1974. With the one resort, the island is quite
secluded when there are no day trippers. Activities including
snorkelling, diving, beach and water activities, Marineland
Melanesia, a semi-submersible viewer, a theatre, as well as the
Green Island Jetty underwater observatory. There are also a number
of tour operators offering a variety of packages from glass bottom
boating, parasailing, windsurfing, through to laid back lunches and
BBQs.
