Julia Creek - Cities, Towns and Localities
Julia Creek is a small township located on the Overlander's Way, a popular tourism drive connecting Townsville with Mount Isa and Tennant Creek in the Northern Territory. Just to the east of Julia Creek is Richmond, the 'Fossil Capital of Australia' and just to the west is Cloncurry, fame as being where the Royal Flying Doctor Service was conceived and setup by Rev. John Flynn.

Julia Creek sits in flat downs country, and was traditionally a cattle and sheep grazing area, although mining has taken over as the main commodity for the area.

There are four bores within a 2 km radius of Julia Creeks supplying the town water. The water is then pumped into the distinctive "Wineglass" shaped water tower for town use.

Whilst summer temperature can soar into the forties and the monsoon period from November to March can make the climate very humid, the short winter brings cool and dry conditions, with day time temperatures no higher than the mid twenties.1

Nature Trail
• Located behind the caravan park, there is a nature trail that takes approximately 45 mins to complete. The trail offers a chance to see some of the local birds and wildlife, especially if you do the walk either in the early morning or late afternoon. A bird list had be had from the information centre.
Water Tower
• The wine glass shaped water tower, opened in 1971, stands at 30 m. It has the capacity to hold 100,000 gallons of water and stands above one of Julia Creek's bores. It serve to provide good water pressure in the town, as well as allowing the water to cool. The water used comes from the Great Artesian Basin. Artesian water is often too hot to use when it comes out of the ground, and most houses in Julia Creek have tanks to allow for cooling. A blue light illuminates the Water Tower at night creating a striking visual effect.
