The ‘Cairns Outback’ region is promoted as ‘The Wheelbarrow Way’ and
encompasses Mount Carbine as the most northerly inland point. Mt Carbine is also
the gateway to Cooktown and Cape York, with the local
Mount
Carbine Caravan Park providing a popular stopping place for those on-route
and returning from Cape
York peninsula region. As well as offering a peaceful haven, and a bird
watchers paradise, the local
Mt
Carbine Caravan Park also provide for
‘Free Van Storage’ to their customers while they go exploring the Cape.
Mt Carbine was also a part of the fabled John Moffat empire. In 1906, Moffatt
developed the ‘Wolfram deposits’ at Mt Carbine (GK Bolton). Wolfram is used to
harden steel.
