Mundubbera - Cities, Towns and Localities
Known as the ‘Citrus Capital of Queensland’, the Shire of Mundubbera is the third largest agricultural crop producer in the Wide Bay Area. In particular it is famous for the range of fruit including mangoes, avocados, lychees, peaches, nectarines, watermelons, rockmelons and table grapes.

Between April and September the citrus ripens and Mundubbera’s population swells with an influx of interstate and overseas workers.

Located midway between Brisbane and Rockhampton on Highway 17, there are several townships including Boynewood, Monogorilby, Riverleigh and Mundubbera.

A visit to the Shire of Mundubbera is to discover the essence of country Queensland, with its country hospitality, breathtaking natural scenery, lush orchards, vineyards and vast grazing country.

Mundubbera sits on the banks of the mighty Burnett River, near the junction of the Boyne and Auburn Rivers.

The word ‘Mundubbera’ is an Aboriginal word meaning either ‘footsteps in the trees’ or ‘meeting place of the waters’, depending on which authority you choose to adopt. Both explanations are suitable, as there were once numerous ‘footstep’ trees in the area, and Mundubbera is certainly located at the meeting place of the Burnett, Boyne and Auburn Rivers.
