Murgon - Cities, Towns and Localities
Once a thriving dairying community with its own cheese factory, the history of the industry can be found in the Queensland Dairy Industry Museum. Today, Murgon and Murgon Shire offers many unique attractions and events throughout the year, whilst also being within an easy drive of the Fraser and Sunshine Coasts, Brisbane and Toowoomba.

Located within the South Burnett region, it is part of a growing wine region, with award-winning wineries, many of which also provide cellar door facilities.

If it is aquatic activities you enjoy, there are also some of the best inland fishing sites, with annual competition that attract competitors every year. You can also enjoy the 2,150 plus ha inland Lake Barambah, created in the early 1980s when the Bjelke-Petersen Dam was built across Barkers Creek to supply water to the upper areas of the South Burnett. Here you can enjoy water-skiing and boating to name a few water activities. There are two lakes, the other being Lake Boondooma, west of Proston.
