Only 980 km west of Brisbane and 208 km west of Charleville,
Quilpie is opal country. The district itself was founded on sheep
and cattle and is now the commercial and social centre of Quilpie
shire. Attractions include tourist drives,
fossicking for opals, fishing, yabbying, a visit to Lake Houdraman,
Bulloo River and Baldy Top Lookout. You should also check out the
