Rainbow Beach Attractions

Carlo Sand Blow
• The Carlo Sand Blow was named by Captain Cook after one of his deck crew. A must see spot, covering over 15 hectares, the views from the top are stunning, taking in the scenic beauty of Double Island Point, Tin Can Bay and the cliffs of coloured sand. Access is a drive to the end of Cooloola Drive, there is a short walking track that passes through woodlands to the sand blow.

It makes a great spot to watch the sunrise or sunset, and even a chance to catch a glimpse of the whales as they migrate during August to October.
Double Island Point
• Double Island Point is a headland south of Rainbow Beach and north of Noosa. Located within the Cooloolah Recreation Area / Great Sandy National Park, the Double Island Point Conservation Park at Double Island Point gets it name from Captain Cook when he passed it on the 18 May 1770.

The point is home to the Double Island Point Lighthouse, in operation since 1884. The lighthouse has undergone a number of modifications from the original oil burner and revolving panels, through to incandescent mantle using vapourised kerosene, 110v DC electricity, 2450v AC power, and finally into solar power, at which point it was demanned.1, 2

The north side of the point is a known surf location, whilst also popular spot for fishing and snorkelling. Just off the point is Wolf Rock (a four volcanic pinnacles formation), which is considered one of the top ten scuba destinations in Australia. Part of the Great Sandy Marine Park, this protected area is a critical habitat for the grey nurse shark. Of course this area is rich in marine life from the Gian Queensland gropers through to anemone fish and nudibranchs.

Access is either by bush walk or 4WD, along the beach starting from the township of Rainbow Beach or from Noosa.
