Located 920 metres above sea level on the Atherton Tableland,
Ravenshoe is Queenslands highest town and famous for its quality cedar timber. In
the early 70s it also came to the notice of all Australians due to the anti
world heritage listing protesters who didn't want to lose logging rights to
large portions of the surrounding rainforest. This publicity also brought to
our attention the ideal climate this town basks in being relatively cool due to
its altitude in a tropical location brought an influx of alternative lifestylers
that gave the town a new lease on life. The biggest tourist attraction in town
would have to be the Railco restored train, journeys that take place each
weekend to Carrington Falls. Other items of interest are the
Millstream Falls National Park
and the Nganyaji Interpretive Centre part of the Queensland Heritage Trails
Network showcases the lifestyles of the local aboriginal tribe the Jirrbal
people.
