Redland Bay Attractions

Coochiemudlo Island
• The sub-tropical island known locally as ‘Coochie’,  is just a short 10 minute ferry ride leaving from Victoria Point. Boasting great beaches, calm waters, and magnificent view across Moreton Bay, the island offers a number of activities from bird-watching, enjoying the flora, catching a glimpse of dolphins and dugongs (from some of the high vantage points), fishing, enjoying the beaches, swimming and also learning about the island’s history.

The name ‘Coochiemudlo’ comes from the Aboriginal word meaning ‘red rock’, after a steep bank of red cliffs on the south western corner of the island that is uncharacteristic feature of the island.

There is an easy graded 4 km track around the island. You can to Melaleuca wetlands 500 m along Elizabeth St or 1 km along the coastline.

The explorer Matthew Flinders landed on Coochiemudlo Island, and this historic event is celebrated with an re-enactment of the landing on the island.
