The Queensland government website depict the state of Queensland divided into
12 regions that include: Central West, Darling Downs,
Far North, Fitzroy, Mackay/Whitsundays, Metropolitan (encompassing the Brisbane,
Ipswich, Lockyer Valley and Redland councils), North Coast, North West,
Northern, South Coast, South West, Wide Bay/Burnett Regions. These broad regions encompassing a number of other
areas, some of which overlap, creating regions usually promoted for
tourism purposes such as Sunshine Coast, Atherton Tableland, Daintree and
Southern Downs. Australia
