Taroom - Cities, Towns and Localities
Small unremarkable town specialising in high quality beef production on the banks of the Dawson River on Queensland's Western Downs.

Originally settled in 1845 the township and surrounding area has a bloody history where the new white settlers took matters into their own hands and waged a small war against the local indigenous tribe the Yeeman. The tribe rose up against the white settlers who were stealing their best lands for grazing cattle.

A new settler Billy Fraser settled in the area in 1856 on a property called Hornets Bank 40km west of current day Taroom. According to legend during a visit to Ipswich Billy's family were raped and murdered by the local Aborigines. One wonders why the Aborigines did this.

Upon his return a series of bloody reprisals took place against the Yeeman, an indigenous woman was shot in cold blood in the main street of a nearby town. Aboriginal men were shot dead at the local race track and many more were killed until eventually the entire tribe was wiped out. It is believed that Billy Fraser murdered more than 100 local men making him the worst serial killer in Australia's history.
