Tewantin - Cities, Towns and Localities

'Heritage Heart of Noosa'

Established around the 1870's Tewantin was a port of call for travellers to the Gympie gold fields. Many people came for employment here to service the industries springing up to service the goldfields. Sawmills were opening up which also brought in more people and the port became busier than ever.

It didn't take long for people who had struck it rich with gold to come back to the area to holiday or setup their homes or boarding houses to cater for other visitors who also found the area alluring with its long white beaches, magnificent rainforest, great fishing, and relaxed environment.

Fishing became a popular past time and entertainment was provided at several of the guesthouses in the area providing more reasons for people to come to this magnificent area of the Queensland coast.

Today the area is home to any number of tourist facilities, from world class hotels, to backpackers, you will find what you are looking for.

With direct flights from Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane direct to Maroochydore Airport (30 mins south of Noosa) the area is now only a short flight away for most Australians. The train at Cooroy is a 15 minute drive from Noosa Heads and approx 2 hours from Brisbane. See Transport for more info.
