There is much to see and do
including the many museums and galleries. Townsville has many
colonial-style buildings with imposing 19th century architecture. A
walk through the Perc Tucker Regional Gallery, the National Trust
Heritage Centre or the Townsville Museum is a walk through the
golden annals of history. The city also alludes to its strong
military tradition with distinctive stone monuments, heritage
buildings and memorial gardens. Visit the halls of the Air-force,
Military and Maritime Museums.
Townsville and the
North Queensland region is rich in arts and culture such as the
Australian Festival
of Chamber Music (July) through to regular performances of
internationally acclaimed Dance North. Among the many festivals to
enjoy are the Townsville Show (July), Palmer St Jazz Festival
(August), and the Great Tropical Jazz Festival (October).
Other attractions include the Billfish Challenge (September),
Black
River Stadium Rodeo & Motor Cross Events,
North QLD
Field Days,
Townsville
Crocodiles NBL Home games and the
North Queensland
Cowboys NRL Home games (both throughout the season).
