Originally settled in the 1870's and known as Banyan this
small town was renamed Tully after the Tully River in 1924.
The town is the wettest in Australia receiving an annual
rainfall of over 4000mm as you would expect the area is very
green and supports a hydro electric power station on the
Tully River called Kareeya Hydro Electric Power Station.
The population these days is over 3000 people and the town
is the main business hub for the area. The main industries
here is sugar and banana's, very little tourism happens here
most visitors go to Mission Beach. Tours of the Tully
Sugar Mill can be organised through the information centre
