There are a range of water sport activities including parasailing, catamaran sailing, jet skiing, glass bottom water bikes, and fishing. With a coral reef just 150 metres offshore, there is some great snorkelling.

The island boasts a couple of resorts, offering a choice of accommodation for those wanting to get away from it all.

Paradise Bay is located at the southern end of Long Island, and is only accessible by air for those booking into the private accommodation, which caters to a limited number of guests.
 

Located on the western edge of Long Island is a small resort called Peppers Palm Bay Resort Long Island, offering a limited number of cabins that line Palm Bay. Long Island Resort is located on Happy Bay.

Palm Bay and Happy Bay provide the nearest safe anchorages to Shute Harbour on the mainland and provide a popular spot for yachties. Unless you have your own boat, access to the island is by flying to nearby the Great Barrier Reef Airport on Hamilton Island and transfer by water taxi or ferry. You can also fly to Whitsunday Coast Airport located just outside of Proserpine, connect by coach to Shute Harbour and then by ferry to Long Island. There are also some charters available from the mainland to Palm Bay.
