Yeppoon - Cities, Towns and Localities
Yeppoon for many years was a farmers paradise producing pineapples, cattle and timber. It wasn't until the 1950's that commercial development took off mainly as an escape location for the people of Rockhampton which lies 40km to the west of Yeppoon.

The area now boast modern facilities of every type with some of the most magnificent beaches in Queensland, it is also the staging point for tourists to Great Keppel Island. The island boasts 17 white sandy beaches and features bushwalking, snorkelling, diving, kayaking, coral viewing, and a rich aboriginal heritage.

Other attractions in Yeppoon include caving at the Olsens and Camoo caves and skydiving, also the World and Australian Cooee Contest or Australian Cooee Championship held each July, contact the tourist information centre for more information.

Yeppoon Attractions

Byfield Rainforest
• Byfield State Forest just 15 minutes drive from Yeppoon and you enter the cool seclusion of a rainforest environment. Canoe on the the waterways or simply relax and soak up the atmosphere. Discover world renowned ‘Nob Creek Pottery’ set in the midst of the rainforest. Dine on exotic tropical delights at ‘Fern’s Hideaway’ restaurant.
Capricornia Cays National Park
• Made up of 22 reefs at the southern end of the Great Barrier Reef on the Tropic of Capricorn. There are 16 coral cays  attached to the reefs with the largest being North West Island at 105ha. 8 of these cays are part of the National Park, with 4 available for camping, they are Tyron Island, North West Island, Masthead Island, and Lady Musgrave Island.

• This place is full of exceptionally friendly animals that you can feed by hand with the food available from the kiosk. Walking around the ground, you are often greeted by a kangaroo or wallaby who come to you!
Koorana Crocodile Farm
• Koorana Crocodile Farm is a breeding Farm for one of Australia's most frightening inhabitants - crocodiles. Here you will come face to face with these fascinating creatures.
Wreck Point Lookout
• Just south of Yeppoon, views over Great Keppel and North Keppel Island.

World Cooee Competition and Oz Festival

• Each year Taranganba is host for the Yeppoon’s annual Cooee Competition and Oz Festival. This is a fun filled day for all of the family to enjoy, with market stalls, kids rides, food and drink outlets, live entertainment and of course the World Cooee Competition.
