Yeppoon for many years was a farmers paradise producing pineapples, cattle and
timber. It wasn't until the 1950's that commercial development took off mainly
as an escape location for the people of Rockhampton which lies 40km to the west
of Yeppoon. The area now boast modern facilities of every type with some of
the most magnificent beaches in Queensland, it is also the staging point for
tourists to Great Keppel Island. The island boasts 17 white sandy beaches and
features bushwalking, snorkelling, diving, kayaking, coral viewing, and a rich
aboriginal heritage.
Other attractions in Yeppoon include caving at the Olsens and Camoo caves and
skydiving, also the World and Australian Cooee Contest or Australian Cooee
