Located on the east coast of the
Yorke Peninsula and just an
easy 90 minute drive (150 km) from Adelaide, is the township port of Ardrossan.
Situated atop of imposing red cliffs, the town offers great views across the
Gulf of St Vincent and is a popular destination for families and tourist, with
its temperate climate and sea breezes. The maximum temperature is usually a few
degrees cooler than Adelaide. Offering a great place for swimming and other
aquatic activities, it is also a popular location for fishing from either the
jetty or out on the gulf, where catches can include Tommy Ruffs, King George
Whiting, Garfish, Mullet, squid and blue swimmer crabs. A well serviced town,
Ardrossan is also the main agricultural centre for the surrounding districts,
with a thriving port from which wheat and dolomite are exported.
