Considered the jewel of the Riverland, Barmera sits on the southern foreshore of Lake Bonney,
a freshwater aquatic paradise.
Fed by the Murray River, via Chambers Creek wetlands, Lake Bonney is a shallow lake with a sandy bottom,
offering safe swimming and a host of other aquatic activities ranging from
boating, canoeing, kayaking, sailing, skiing, jet skiing and fishing. The region
is also a haven for birds.
The foreshore has boat ramps and jetties, as well as gazebos, bbq sites and
children's playgrounds. With the main street providing some great examples of
Art Deco design, there are a range of speciality shops. Barmera is also renown
for country music, playing host to the annual Country Music Festival.
