Located on the banks of the
Murray River in the
heart of the Riverland, the river town of Berri gets its name from the
Aboriginal word meri which is said to mean wide bend in the river.
Surrounded by irrigated orchards, the town is notable as a fruit processing
town, known to many Australia as being the original home of the juice company
Berri Ltd. There are also a number of vineyards with cellardoors in the region.
The river offers plenty of activities for locals and visitors, such as
fishing, boating, canoeing and waterskiing.
