The River Murray is the dominant feature of what is known as the Big
River Country region, an area of nearly 5 million hectares, and a very
popular holiday destination for locals and visitors, that also
encompasses the Riverland and
Murraylands regions.
As the 7th biggest river system on the planet and the second longest river in
Australia, Big River Country encompasses numerous towns and villages as the
river winds its way through the
Riverland and
Murraylands region to
spill into Lake Alexandrina. Some of the towns
and villages in the region include Barmera, Berri,
Blanchetown,
Karoonda, Kingston-on-Murray, Lameroo, Loxton,
Mannum,
Meningie,
Morgan,
Murray Bridge, Paringa, Pinnaroo, Renmark, Swan Reach,
Tailem Bend,
Tintinara, Waikerie and Wellington.
