Originally an agricultural area surveyed
by Colonial William Light in 1838 and found to be well
suited to the raising of wheat and grapes. It wasnt long
before people from Adelaide identified the area as better
suited to them and their holiday homes. Being close to the
beach and with a perfect climate (Mediterranean) the area
soon boomed. With the introduction of cars
the area developed many hotels and other accommodation
houses and today the town is a mecca for sun worshippers and
cafe late drinkers enjoying the views over the beach. For
