Brookfield Conservation Park - Cities, Towns and Localities
Located on the Sturt Highway just 34 km east of Truro and 11 km west of Blanchetown in the Murray-Darling Basin, the park was a gift to South Australia from the Chicago Zoological Society in the 1970s. Covering some 5,534 hectares, the park is within gentle undulating limestone country with vegetation made up of open scrubland of Red Mallee, Mallee Box and Yorrell over the northern eastern half, with Oil bush, Sugarwood, Native Boxthorn and Bullock Bush covering most of the rest of the park.

This park was proclaimed primarily to conserve the Southern Hairy-nosed Wombats (Lasiorhinus latifrons), as well as being habitat and home of the Fat-tailed Dunnart and Red Kangaroo. Birdlife that share the park include the rare Stone Curlew, Ground Cuckoo Shrikes and Australian Owlet Nightjars.

There is no camping, however there are picnic facilities near the Rangers Office that include gas barbecue and toilets. Although there is access by conventional vehicles, some two thirds of the park are restricted due to the continuing research on the Hairy-nosed Wombat.

Situated in the rain-shadow of the Mount Lofty Ranges, the park is on the fringe of the arid zone, being hot and dry during summer and cold and wet during winter.
