Located on the shores of Australias largest freshwater
lake system, the township of Meningie provides access to the
northern end of the Coorong National Park. A great place to
make your base from which to enjoy the surrounds through any
number of ecological tour operator or just go exploring on
your own.
Travelling south, you pass through Woods Well
and Policemans Point. Just over 60 km south of Meningie is
the township of Salt Creek, but dont blink, as you may miss
it. Salt Creek marks the entrance into the more remote
southern stretches of the Coorong National Park. Tourist
information and camping permits are available from the
townships two highway roadhouses.
Camp Coorong and
Meningie has popular Aboriginal guided tours, explaining the
local Dreamtime creation story.
