Millicent - Cities, Towns and Localities

Just over 400 km south-east of Adelaide, Millicent is located in the heart of the Wattle Range Council region and within an easy 50 km drive to Mount Gambier.

A rural centre, developed around the pine plantations in the area, pulp and paper mills at nearby Snuggery.

The town gets its name from Millecent Glen, who was the wife of one of the early pioneers and daughter of the first Anglican Bishop of Adelaide.

Popular attractions include the Millicent National Trust Museum, the nearby Tantanoola Caves Conservation Park and the Canunda National Park.

Millicent Attractions

Millicent National Trust Museum

• The museum was started in 1960, in the first Primary School built in Millicent in 1873. Today is has grown to a large complex, of beautifully restored Living History! Major displays include 25 fully restored buggies, carriages and wagons — a large machinery shed — a Shipwreck room — beautiful gowns — Millicent History and Aboriginal deep cave art replicas.

Geltwood Craft Festival

• This annual festival includes craft exhibitions, displays and demonstrations held over a week throughout the town. It also incorporate the Tall Timbers Exhibition. The Farmers market is held on the first Sunday of the festival offering fresh and new local products.

• Held in the local Millicent Visitor Information Centre and part of the Geltwood Festival, the exhibition features the two timbers that dominate the region, Pinus Radiata and Red Gum. The event also features woodworking displays and demonstrations.
