Moonta and Moonta Bay - Cities, Towns and Localities
Located in the Yorke Peninsula, the historic town of Moonta and Moonta Bay is found in the area called the Copper Coast, sometimes referred to as ‘The Copper Triangle’, being one of three main towns in the area, the other two being Kadina and Wallaroo.

In 1861 an Irish shepherd named Patrick Ryan discovered copper at a place known to the local indigenous people as Moonta-Moonterra. By 1870, the town population had grown to over 10,000.

With a population today of just under 4,000, Moonta, the historic Moonta Mines and Moonta Bay is still a popular destination for tourist. As well as the fascinating history, the region is a great place for those seeking a relaxed lifestyle, offering beach and a great place for fishing.
