Port Elliot - Cities, Towns and Localities
The historic coastal village of Port Elliot is located between Victor Harbor and Middleton and situated on Horseshoe Bay, a sheltered small bay off the larger Encounter Bay.

Visitors to the village can wander The Strand area with its historic buildings, craft shops, restaurants and cafes. Enjoy the stunning views on the coastal walk, encompassing a number of sites of interest including Aboriginal middens.

Horseshoe Bay offers a protected swimming beach that is well frequented during the summer holidays, and for those who like surfing, Boomer Beach on the western edge of the town is the place to go.

With headlands and bays, magnificent coastal scenery, pristine ocean vistas, and its close proximity to a range of activities and event throughout the Fleurieu Peninsula, it is no surprise that Port Elliot is a popular holiday destination.

 Attractions

Boomer Beach
• With the huge waves, it is no wonder that this is one of the best surfing locations for the experienced surfer on the South Australian coast.
The Cockle Train Experience
• Email
• The Cockle Train travels along the oldest steel railed railway in Australia dating back to 1887 when it was constructed to provide a link between the River Murray and the ocean wharfs at Pt Elliot and later at Victor Harbor. Based at the Goolwa Depot, it commences its daily run from Goolwa station, in the historic Wharf Precinct alongside the River Murray. After crossing the main Goolwa to Victor road the line heads off across the plains to Middleton, picking up or dropping off passengers on request, and then to Port Elliot where it reaches the Encounter Bay coast. On leaving Port Elliot the train climbs to the top of the coastal cliffs and passengers then experience some of the most picturesque coastal scenery on the Fleurieu Peninsula, with nothing separating you from the beach below and a perfect view of the Southern Ocean. During winter you may even catch sight of the Southern Right Whales.
Fishing
• The local jetty, rocks and surf fishing provide enjoyment for those wanting to cast a reel.
