Tanunda is the main administrative and
business centre within the Barossa Valley. The original
village here was named Langmeil and was established by
German settlers in 1843. As the town grew it incorporated
other villages and eventually became known as Tanunda an
aboriginal word that means "waterhole".
Today the township has a population in excess of 3500 people
and is graced by many fine Lutheran and Baptist churches.
Being located centrally within the Barossa there is a myriad
of wineries surrounding the town to visit that offer
tastings from their cellar doors.
