The Loaded Dog Statue
• 97 McDouall Stuart Ave, WHYALLA SA 5608 • Ph: 08 8645 9926 • Email
• The Loaded Dog statue based on Henry Lawson’s story is the work of world famous figurative sculptor, Andy Scott. Created in his workshop in Glasgow, Scotland, the sculptor used his unique technique of wielding thousands of tiny pieces of steel rod to create a giant steel dog. The inspiration for this statue came from ‘Arabesque’, a stunningly lifelike Arabian horse, and was created in response to the coastal erosion. The loaded dog was modelled on Tommy, the central character of Henry Lawson’s short story of the same name.

The Loaded Dog ‘Tommy’ is in the garden at the front of the Whyalla Veterinary Clinic.
