The village of Rosevears is located on the western banks of the Tamar River, 17 km north of Launceston. Originally established as a ship building port, it was here that the schooner ‘Rebecca’ was built. This was the vessel belonging to early pioneer and explorer John Batman and which was to carry him across the Bass Strait in 1835, leading to the creation of Melbourne.
