This was a most enjoyable private tour, with a friendly and
knowledgeable skipper. Departing from the Main Wharf in
Strahan, we were taken up Macquarie Harbour to Sarah Island,
a most interesting place that was established in 1822 to put
the fear of God and Hell into the Van Diemens Land
prisoners. We then sailed along the south coast of the harbour, and a
look at Double Cove and the huge trees lining the foreshore.
Travelling, westward up to pass Hells Gate and then out of
the harbour to see Ocean Beach, where in winter the Roaring
40’s pound the shore.
To
our delight, we saw a small pod of dolphins, that seem to
accompany the boat back into the harbour. Then they were
gone and we were left to make our way back to Strahan.
We like to thank Mario for a most enjoyable tour, and highly
recommend a charter that is friendly, very reasonably price, and a guide who
certainly knows his stuff, and we sure do envy his
lifestyle. It’s a shame, we missed meeting his dog, who
apparently gets really excited and tends to fall into the
water. That’s what the fishing net is for...
