Classified as an historic town, Deloraine is midway between
Launceston (48 km) and
Devonport (51 km). with a range of colonial
buildings reflecting the early history of the town, green pastoral
scenery against the spectacular backdrop of the Great Western Tiers, and
the tree-lined Meander River, there is much to see and do, as well as
being the ideal place to make base when visiting the surrounding region.
The district was opened up for agriculture in the 1820s, with many of
the existing buildings, cottages and homesteads dating from the 1830s
and 1840s.
Some of the many attractions include Yarns, soft sculptured
artwork at yhe the Deloraine Community Complex, Folk Museum, Bowerbank
Mill (Arts and Crafts), St Marks Church of England (1857), Church of
the Holy Redeemer,
Marakoopa and King Solomon Caves, Calstock a famous racing
property, Arcoona (once the local hospital).
