Bicheno - Cities, Towns and Localities

There is much to see and do, with something for everyone including fishing, diving, bowls, animal parks, penguin tours, walks, and golf to name a few.

Famous for its mild climate throughout the year, it’s long white sandy beaches and clear blue water, you can also make Bicheno your base to visit the surrounding countryside, including Freycinet National Park and Douglas Apsley National Park.

Bicheno Attractions

Douglas Apsley National Park
• Located north of Bicheno, the park features spectacular gorges and waterfalls.
  • Apsley Gorge Lookout and Waterhole - enjoy  breathtaking views from the viewing platform above the Apsley River, then stroll down to the waterhole for a swim. 15 minute return walk.
  • Apsley Gorge - when weather permits, enjoy tranquil pools and undisturbed river scenes. 3-4 hours return.

Bicheno Dive Centre

• Have a dive at the Governor Island Marine Reserve. Great temperate water diving.
Take care at the Blowhole. I’ve seen it blow a young man off his feet, when it looked like there was a no show. there is also the usual Rocking Rock.

We certainly enjoyed ourselves with the variety of animals, and was astonished at the number of tiger snakes in the pens, there seemed to be at least 100 of them. Amazing. Click here for some images...

Evercreech Forest Reserve
• The largest White gums (Eucalypts) in the world are at Evercreech in the Fingal Valley. 4 hrs return.
Freycinet National Park
• Only 35 minutes south east of Bicheno, that includes Wineglass Bay and the Hazards.
Governor Island Marine
• Explore and view the wonders of the reserve and marine life. Get a crayfish licence and dive for your dinner.

• There are local nightly tours from the surf centre.

• There are boat tours in a glass bottom boat in the Gulch.

• Check out the fabulous proteaceae in front the premises.
• There are plenty of places to walk including:
  • Bicentennial foreshore walk - from Redbill Beach to the Blowhole, 3 km one way.
  • Denison River to The Porches - walk north along the beach to The Porches to see the unusual formations. This is a 3 km one way walk.
  • Blowhole to Farm Point - walk along Rice Pebble Beach past Muirs Rock to Farm Point. Return via the track or Harveys Farm Road. This is 8 km return.
  • Whalers Lookout Rock - a short stroll to the two lookouts on top of the rock. Great place for a photo.
  • Redbill Beach - a great beach for an early morning stroll, with Diamond Island just off shore. When the tide is out, you can walk across, but make sure you walk back before the tide turns.
