Exeter is located in the Tamar Valley, only 24 km north of
Launceston, a rural service town
in a region noted for its orchards, sheep, dairy and beef cattle. In more recent
times, it has a popular grape region, with visitors drawn to some of the
vineyards. Other attractions in town include arts and crafts and a 9 hole golf
course.
The nearby Notley Fern Gorge offers
an easy walk through the forest, over mossy bridges and alongside the river
fringed by mossy glades. With giant man ferns, huge trees and plenty of bird
life, the walk is an easy 1.5 km return (approximately 45 minutes).
