Sheffield - Cities, Towns and Localities
Situated on the foothills of Mount Roland, in the picturesque region of Tasmania’s North West, Sheffield is only 26 km from Devonport. The town of Sheffield has established a reputation as a tourist destination, in particular for its display of murals throughout the town, over 50 of them, hence it is also known as the ‘The Town of Murals’.

Surrounding with rich agricultural fields, rolling green hills and natural vistas, overshadowed by Mount Roland, Sheffield is your gateway to the Cradle Country, within an easy hours drive to Cradle Mountain. It makes a great place to make your base, whilst visiting the surrounding region.

Check out our listing of Sheffield accommodation and North West accommodation. In addition to our listed online travel guide information, contact the local tourism visitor centre for your destination for more attractions, tours, local maps and other information.

• Annual event held in April
• Held in Mural Park, the National Mural Fest is a unique annual art competition held in Sheffield - Town of Murals. Artists engage in a public paint-off on a mural 2100mm-high x 4800mm-wide, based on the same poem as their mural’s central theme and inspiration. Each year a new poem is selected, meaning no two Mural Fests are ever the same.

During the paint-off week, visitors and supporters who come to Mural Park to view the progress are encouraged to vote for their favourite artwork. At the end of the week, the votes are tallied and the artist whose painting receives the most votes is awarded The Mural Fest Visitors Award.

All murals remain on display in Mural Park until the next National Mural Fest, 12 months later. People who visit Sheffield during this period to view the murals are also asked to vote for their favourite artwork. The artist whose painting receives the most votes over this extended period is awarded The Mural Fest People’s Choice Award.
