Located
at the mouth of the Inglis River on the north coast of Tasmania is
Wynyard. Originally named Table Cape, Wynyard is a rural service centre,
that is a significant tourist destination for the region. It was renamed
Wynyard (1850) after E B Wynyard, who was a Lieutenant-General in the
New South Wales Corps.

To the east just 18 km is Burnie and 152 km south-east is
Launceston. The many attractions include the floral displays at
the Table Cape Tulip Farm and the annual Tulip Festival in October. You
can also enjoy views from the lookout and lighthouse at Table Cape, as
well as trout, fly and ocean fishing, golf course, a host of venues with music, food, arts
and crafts. See the oldest marsupial fossil in Australia, a
fossilised skeleton of a possum-sized marsupial, found at nearby Fossil
Bluff. There are several public walks and gardens. By making Wynyard
your staging point, you can visit Flowerdale Valley Emu Farm, and the
Lapoinya Rhododendron Gardens (October being the best season). You can
also visit Strahan and the west coast (only two and a half hours drive)

Fossil Bluff
West of Wynyard is an unusual geological structure comprising glacial
Permian Tillite, sandstone and basalt known as Fossil Bluff. It offers
excellent views, as well as being the location where the oldest
Australian fossil of a marsupial was discovered. There is a small beach
and in the rocks at either end of the beach, fossils can be found.

Table Cape Lookout
Perched above the ocean about 190 metres above sea level, is Table Cape
Lookout. From here your can get fantastic views.

The Table Cape Light Station
Established in 1888 is part of a network of
navigational aids. The lighthouse was established in 1888. Elevated 190
metres above sea level and a tower height of 25 metres, it can be seen
16 nautical miles on the red range and 19 nautical miles on the white
range.

Only 7 km north of Wynyard, just follow the signs to
Table Cape Lighthouse and you will arrive at the home of Van Diemen
Quality Bulbs, one of Australias foremost bulb companies specialising
in Tulips, Daffodils and Dutch Iris. It is open for a brief period in
Spring from about late-September to the mid-October (10am-4:30pm), where
visitors can enjoy the field of Tulips, relax indoors with refreshments
whilst examining the displays and purchasing a variety of items.

A week long festival to simulate your
senses, celebrating the flush of spring colours in the coastal town of Wynyard
on the north west coast of Tasmania. Come enjoy the bright colours of the spring
