Only a 30 minute drive from Queenstown, 20 minutes from
Rosebery, Zeehan was once known
as Silver City, after the discovery of silver in 1882.
Today the population is considerably less than the 10,000 of
its heyday, but it still offers plenty to see and do for the
visitor. Check out the West Coast
Pioneers Memorial Museum, filled with information about the west
coast mines and the many ships that have been wrecked in
the treacherous seas off the west coast.
You can make it one of your stopovers on the way to
Strahan, checking out some of the architecture, including the Gaiety Theatre
and the Grand Hotel in the main street. For up-to-date accommodation, attraction, tours and
other information contact the local tourism centre: |
