‘The Island State’

Hobart Click through to flora emblem of Tasmania...If you have not taken the time to see Tasmania, then make this the year to come and visit our most mountainous and natural state with misty jagged mountain skylines, that roll into valleys and gorges. There are white sandy beaches and pristine bays, ancient rainforests and wild rivers. A place with a ‘living heritage’ where you can feel the links with our violent but rich history; where you can imagine that you have stepped back into time, a colonial past of hardship and tragedy as reflected in the many convict settlements.

Hobart the capital is a gorgeous city full of character and history, set on the Derwent River. Launceston, Burnie and Devonport are the other major centres. Area’s to look out for include the beautiful Tamar Valley and the Freycinet Peninsula, Tasmanian Devils too if you're lucky.

You can relax and enjoy the comforting ambience of the many villages and townships, exploring the quaint shops, browse through the arts and craft galleries, sit back and relax in the cafes and restaurants whilst sampling the local produce. For those seeking excitement and more adventurous activities, you can  hike through National Parks in some of the greatest wilderness areas in the world, with views across wild coastline or treks through old growth forest. Then relax over a warm camp fire, or indoors whilst enjoy the local wines, cheese and the many other clean green natural produce that are a hallmark of Tasmania.

Accessible from mainland Australia by the ocean going Spirit of Tasmania I and II, departing from Melbourne to Devonport. So whether it is a quick weekend getaway, adventure break, back to nature vacation or a long needed laidback holiday, Tassie is the place to go and see.

You can also fly to Tasmania, with flights landing at Hobart or Launceston. Another way of experiencing Tasmania is through one of the popular tours and charters, with experienced tour guides. There are chartered flights and helicopter rides that can take you over some of the less accessible places in Tassie, providing a different perspective across this beautiful landscape.

When vacationing in Australia and Tasmania, there are many lodging options to choose from, whether you prefer rustic or luxurious, camping and caravanning, bed and breakfasts, lovely self-contained cottages, motel and hotel, wonderful choice of self-contained accommodation. You will be spoilt on the variety and choices.
