Located at the
southern end of the Tamar Valley region,
Launceston is Australia’s third oldest
city and Tasmania’s second
largest city in Tasmania. It also the area’s major centre in the north, and
situated where the South and North Esk Rivers meet to become the Tamar
River. Nestled in the valleys formed by the river system and surrounded
by mountains, it is an ideal base from which to visit the surrounding
region.
