Port Campbell Hostel
• 18 Tregear St, PORT CAMPBELL VIC 3269

The Port Campbell Hostel is an independently owned hostel in a small fishing village located 12 km west of the iconic 12 Apostles on the famous Great Ocean Road in south-western Victoria.

The hostel is owned by the Port Campbell Surf Life Saving Club, which has helped provide emergency coastal rescue services along a 60km length of some of Australia's most spectacular, but dangerous, coast since 1963. Every cent of profit made by the hostel goes straight back to the PCSLSC, to purchase equipment that ensures the club continues to respond to coastal emergencies, and help save lives.

'Port' (as the locals tend to refer to the village as) lies in a beautiful horse-shoe shaped bay inside the Port Campbell National Park really, really close to some of the most spectacular coastal attractions in Australia. To Port's west are the Bay of Islands, Bay of Martyrs, the Grotto, London Bridge and the Arch; and to its east are Loch Ard Gorge, the 12 Apostles, Gibsons Beach and Moonlight Head.

If you plan to make a sunset visit to the Apostles to capture what can be incredible photos, we recommend you plan your journey to arrive no later than 30 minutes before sunset, to give yourself enough time to walk to the Apostles' viewing platforms and get set-up at the best vantage points.

The district around Port Campbell provides the opportunity to indulge in a large number of outdoor activities to suit the young, or young at heart - especially during the summer months!

BOAT TOURS? (Conditions permitting) grab the chance to see the Apostles and Loch Ard Gorge from sea-level.
DIVING? You could dive on one of the 15 known wrecks along Port's immediate stretch of coastline.
GOLF? The area offers the opportunity to enjoy a couple of cracker golf courses.
MOUNTAIN BIKING? Ask Tony at the desk about a couple of reasonably gentle MTB trails he's found around the area. (Come prepared).
SURFING? In the right conditions, Port is home to one of Australia's largest waves. It is a 40-foot monster that normally roars into life around March and April every year, over what the locals call 'Easter Reef'. There is also a gentler wave just east of Port Campbell Bay, and heaps of great surfing breaks dotted all along the coastline.

We are pretty proud of this stretch of coastline and welcome you, from wherever you call home, to Port Campbell, and our hostel to experience this neck of the woods, for yourselves.

The (dreaded) fine print:

If you book a bed through this site, PLEASE read the email that will soon be lodged into your nominated account. Not only does it confirm your booking, it also reinforces the terms and conditions relating to your booking from both your booking provider AND the hostel.

It also provides some information and recommendations the hostel prepared, about Port Campbell and the district.

For instance, we outline the opening hours of the fuel and grocery outlets in town (remember, Port is a very small rural village, so businesses do not trade for as long as you may expect) and where to buy alcohol. We comment about mobile telephone reception in the district (Vodafone!!??...) and provide information on a brilliant cliff-face walk that starts from Port.

We know that reading that email is not compulsory, but it does provide valuable local knowledge if you want to make the most of your time in Port Campbell, and this part of Australia.

Finally, information in that message that is prefixed with 'PCH' was directly and deliberately prepared by the hostel, to point-out content directly related to the hostel. (So if you are reading content in that email that is not prefixed with PCH, that content was NOT generated by anyone from the hostel).
