Casterton - Cities, Towns and Localities
The rural town of Casterton holds a special place in Australia’s farming history being the birthplace of the Kelpie, a breed of Australian working dog. The first pup of the breed was born at the sheep station in the 1870s, with Casterton now known as ‘Kelpie Country’.

There is more to Casterton than that of sheep and dogs, nestled as it is among rolling hills on the Glenelg River. Steeped in history, the town offers a quiet retreat where you can base yourself to explore the historic heritage and surrounding area. There are some small businesses including bed and breakfast, eatery, bakery and other small locally owned and operated shops.

Check out our listing of Casterton accommodation. In addition to our listed online travel guide information, contact the local tourism visitor centre for your destination for more attractions, tours, local maps and other information.
