Dunkeld - Cities, Towns and Localities
Located at the base of Mount Sturgeon at the southern entrance to the Grampians is the pretty village of Dunkeld. This rural village is a popular tourist destination with its beautiful setting dominated not only by Mount Sturgeon (548 m) but also the taller Mount Abrupt (827 m), with the latter being the highest mountain in the southern Grampians. Mount Piccaninny just over 4 km from Dunkeld is about 422 metre above sea level.

Dunkeld Attractions

Dunkeld Arboretum
• A lovely sanctuary that was a community project based at the old Water Reserve. Today, visitors can enjoy a leisurely stroll along the walking track that takes you pass hundreds of trees (over 7,000 trees are in the reserve), including giant red gums and what is said to be the second largest collection of oak trees in Australia. The Old Reservoir Walk follows the creek at the bottom of the town, below the hotel, and takes in the old reservoir, the arboretum, the sawmill and other natural sights.
Bush Walking & Hiking
• There are some superb tracks that take you up Mount Sturgeon, Mount Abrupt or the Piccaninny, that offer magnificent views of the surrounds and during certain times of the year the chance to experience the magnificent wildflowers and native wildlife.
